Dr. Wissing has been a postdoctoral research fellow in the Department of Oncology at McGill University and Department of Urology at the McGill University Health Centre since May 2016, under the supervision of Dr. Franco (Division of Cancer Epidemiology) and Dr. Aprikian (Department of Urology). He is conducting epidemiology studies related to genitourinary cancers (prostate, bladder, endometrial, and ovarian cancer) and to the human papillomavirus (HPV). His research is primarily funded through a fellowship from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research.
Dr. Wissing started his medical studies at Leiden University in the Netherlands in 2005. Between 2009 and 2014, he interrupted his medical studies to pursue a PhD degree in oncology. He conducted prostate cancer research at Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions, Leiden University, Utrecht University and the United States Food and Drug Administration, resulting in the thesis “Improving therapy options for patients with metastatic castrate-resistant prostate cancer”. In September 2014, Dr. Wissing received his PhD cum laude, and in December 2015, he graduated cum laude from medicine. Upon graduation, Dr. Wissing worked as a ship’s physician before continuing his research career at McGill University. He has published 20 articles in international, peer-reviewed articles, and presented his data at 16 (inter)national conferences.
